Canada's Paula Findlay was surprise winner today. Emma Moffat and Lisa Norden both raced n London, but from how it looked they were both carrying some fatigue from the Hamburg race which was held only 7 days earlier.

Jordan Rapp(two time ironman champion in 2009 and top place getter at the hotly contested Abu Dhabi triathlon) was badly injured as a result of a 'hit and run' accident while cycle training. It appears the driver of the vehicle involved was at fault as Rapp was cycling along a straight section of road while the car pulled out of a dead end road.
From reports on the 'SlowTwitch.com' which Rapp is the website technician of, it sounds as though he should be able to make a full recovery. A similiar report by Simon Whitfield on his blog also indicates this. The seriousness of this accident can be deducted by the fact Rapp has been in intensive care for several days and on a ventilator. Simon Whitfield wrote that he is able to communicate with hand signals and appears to have movement control of his feet.
Jordan Rapp is one of the better known and very well respected professional triathletes so I am sure all those who know him will be wishing him a full and fast recovery.

Abu Dhabi Triathlon in 2 days, what will we see?
March 11th 2010, - 3km swim, 200km bike , 20km run
I am expecting the mens race to have some surprising results. Someone with early season form who is also a very good cyclist such as Richard Ussher could take the win. Rutger Beke has been keeping a relatively low profile recently but he could also surprise if he has done the preparation. The thing is that this is a new race on an untested course so making predictions is more tricky than usual.

Bad breaks for 3 of the worlds best female triathletes
February 24th 2010
Over the past two months it has been reported that Chrissy Wellington has come of her bike due to icy conditions and fractured her lower arm. And in the last 2 weeks the 2009 ITU world series champion Emma Moffat has come off the bike resulting in fracture in the shoulder region. The 2008 ITU world series champion Sam Warriner has also suffered a similiar fate after coming off her bike in a sprint triathlon the past weekend.
Am sure the whole triathlon community is wishing them all a full and fast recovery so they are all back racing and making the sport exciting to follow.

Action of an age group triathlon from the same day/location as the elite race in the photo above by Robin Ducker. Robin will be covering the photography for IMNZ coming the 6th March.
This 'tri NZ' series event was an interesting warm up for many top triathletes with the ITU world series beginning 20th April in Sydney.
This race was was rougly a 500m swim, 17km bike and 4.2km run on a very tight inner-city course.
Both Bevan Docherty and Samantha Warriner started but both had some hiccups in this short race.
Race favourite, Bevan Docherty was forced to pull over and change his wheel after a puncture on the first lap of the bike. It was a disappointing day for Sam Warriner who suffered a freak accident early in the bike, crashing to the main street and requiring medical assistance to cuts and abrasions and a broken wrist.
Richard Ussher taking it out. Richard said after the race that he is aiming for Kona this year.
He also plans to race the Abu Dhabi race in March and it should suit him as it is a 3km swim, a 200km cycle and a 30km run. If anything only his swim is holding him back but he is focusing on that aspect.
Auckland teenager Michael Poole surprised many to become the youngest winner of the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman in Mt Maunganui today.
Poole, 18, had no ambitions of winning the gruelling 2km swim 90km bike and 21km run, treating the day for experience following his win over the standard distance at Whangamata last weekend. Read more...
